Welcome to the official home of Mickey’s Drive for Five – my pledge to raise $500,000 for Special Olympics Maryland in the next 6 months. The journey towards this goal has really only just begun, and already I am overwhelmed by the support I have received from people who also believe that supporting SOMD and the athletes who train and compete all year long – many of whom I have come to know and love – is just the right thing to do.
But okay, I will also be honest. I am doing this mostly out of the goodness of my heart, but there IS something in it for me. And not just the warm feeling of being a good guy. It’s the only way I could get out of doing the MSP Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics Maryland! Because while I do believe strongly in the mission of SOMD and get immense personal fulfillment and satisfaction from being a part of this amazing extended family, I also want the warm feeling of NOT having to jump in the Bay in 2011.
